Vacation Time

It's time for Vacation!!!!!

I will be out for a week having a great time.

Here at this place called
Foggy River Place

This is the house we will be staying in again.
The bottom half of the house will sleep
15 people.  The top half is were the owners
live but you never really see them.

A river view from the boat

This is a picture of the fog that comes in
right a dusk. It feels so good as we are
sitting outside on the patio that sits right out
over the river. Us drinking our wine
and talking for hours into the night.
Ah...  no phone, no work, no responsibility..
Life is Good at Foggy River Place
I hope you all have a great week
and week-end. I will talk to
you all next week when I get back.

Until then,

The Finished Results of the Ugly Yellow House

Finally, the Ugly House is DoNe!!!

Can I get a hooray from everyone???
I hope you've been tagging along with us
as we ventured  through our progress
of remolding this Ugly house to a
Beautiful Home.

Now, on with the picture show.....

This is the New Bathroom.
I say New, because we had to replace
everything in this bathroom.
This area is kinda small, so getting pictures of
the whole bathroom was really difficult.
The blue tape you see on the wall is there because
we had to varnish the side panel of the cabinet.
(It is now gone and looks good)

This picture was taken from the back bedroom
looking out the bedroom door to the entry of
another bedroom. (does that make sense?)

The stove and microwave will be installed
when we return from vacation.
But you can see it with your imagination? Right?

Boomer is my sister's baby and he just
had surgery in this picture.
So he tagged along with us for the day.
In this picture, you can see the entry way tile that
runs into the wood flooring  in the  living room.

Well, that's it folks the picture show is over.
I have to say, I am really glad that this
project is done, but I did enjoy learning
and experiencing the remodeling
of my childhood home.

Now, would you like the grand total cost
for this remodel job?
Drum Roll Please....
$6500.00

That's right.
I think we did pretty good.
Considering we bought a new
bathtub, bathroom sink, stool,
wood flooring and carpet.
Kitchen cabinets, trim for the whole house,
crown molding for the kitchen, living room and hall.
Dishwasher, Stove and microwave vent hood.
New plumbing, Paint and SO Much More!!!!
We had a budget and we stuck to it.

Well, I am now going to pack because I am
taking off on vacation tomorrow for a whole week.

Have a great week and I will talk to you all soon,

Could this be 7 Years Of Bad Luck?

I purchased this mirror at a great price
from Old Time Pottery about a year ago.

When my son seen that I had it tucked
behind my bedroom door, he started
begging me for it to put into his room.

After tossing the idea that I Did NoT
want to give it up, I decided I would
let him have it.  He asked if I would
paint the frame of the mirror black.

Well, Of Course I Can....
Spray Paint, Here I come.

After taping the mirror, I took it
outside to give it a paint job.
I set it up on a stool
against the wall to dry.
When I went back outside to
check on it, the wind had knocked
it down and Yep, you guessed it
The mirror had broke into pieces.
What really ticks me off is that
we have not had any wind in weeks...
The temperature here in Oklahoma
has been so HOT that when you
step outside you can't even breath.
And WhaT, Now WIND???
Okay, I'm over it now, I think..

While the mirror was drying and falling
off the stool, I had started to post about
how I have been tossing around the idea of
making an inspiration board to diplay
my inspirations and future project lists.
So I went on a search into the blogging
world to find some ideas.
When I came across Shanty2Chic
I saw this awesome
Fabric Magnet Board.

Here is the Tutorial

Didn't they do a great job?
I love the color red and with the
black and white fabric, this is a cool
project that can be used any where.

So... the little wheels inside my head started
turning and I have come up with an idea.
(Again, thanks to Shanty2Chic)
I am going to carefully pull off the broken
mirror pieces and clean it up leaving me
with the backing and the frame.
I am then going to glue some cork board
and the galvanized metal that
Shanty2Chic used in their tutorial
to make my inspiration board.
I will post it as soon as I get it done.

How about that???
Something good can come out of
something BaD...
Wait,    Does this mean I am going
to have 7 years of bad luck???
I so Hope Not.

Talk to you soon,

Trim Mirror Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to use
trim on a wall that will hold your mirror in place.

First, you will need to purchase your choice
of trim. There is trim that you can purchase
that is already white, but I chose trim
that I painted myself.
Also, the trim I chose has a 1/8in
edge on the back of the trim.
This will help hold the mirror onto the wall.
Be sure to take the mirror off
the wall so it is easier to work with.

Next, you will need to paint your trim.
I use some left over paint we had.
(Interior Latex Semi-Gloss  White #5.)
I applied two good coats.

Next, you will want to measure your mirror.

Once your mirror is measured, then you can measure
your trim and cut to fit.

(measure corners so the trim will have a miter fit)

Place the trim on top of the mirror to make sure
you have a good fit before attaching to the wall.

Now, attach the bottom piece of trim to the wall.
We drilled a hole first and then nailed
the trim to the wall.

Set the mirror down inside of the trim.

Attach the sides and then the top piece last.

You will then want to set the nails into the wood
and rub a white caulking stick over the holes.
This will hide the nail holes.
You can buy the caulking stick at Lowes,
it will look like a white crayon.
Then apply another coat of paint to your trim.

Here is the mirror before

And here is the mirror after.

That's it.
It's a great way to dress up any room
that's in need of a mirror.

Odd's and End's

Hello again,
This week-end we got alot done
at the Ugly Yellow House.

Starting Friday night, We double checked
all plumbling and hung the cabinet up
in the bathroom. We also hung the
mirror back up but it just didn't look right.
The mirror was a little ruff around the edges.

Here is a picture of the mirror
This is the top of the mirror and the edges are
turning black. So we bought some trim
from Lowes and painted it white.
We then attached it to the outside of the mirror.

It made a world of difference.  Even the guys liked
the look it gave the room. Good thing, since
they are the ones who did it. Jacque and I
just told them how we wanted it done.

I snapped this picture of the guys as they
sat down on the edge of the tub.
They were talking about how glad they
we're that the bathroom was finally done.
The bathroom project was the biggest
challenge for all of us. Starting from
the house that had to be leveled in the
bathroom area before we could even
put a new sub-flooring down
to replacing everything in the bathroom.

SaTurDaY
Saturday's work day was a success too.
We had a couple of odds and ends to attend
to and then one big project to accomplish.
We had to drill holes in the doors for
the door knobs for all three bedrooms.

So the list went like this:
Door knobs drilled  -  check
Door knobs installed  -  check
Gas line hooked up  -  check
Make box to cover gas line -  check
Touch up walls with paint  -  check
Caulking windows and sinks -  check
Started clean-up  -  check

Here is the gas line that was put in. As you can
see, it runs through the bottom of the cabinet.
So Lance made a simple cover out of wood inside
the cabinet so when items are put into the
cabinet it will not be hitting the gas line.

Something that simple will help out in the long run.

This picture is how the hallway looked forever.
As we were remodling everything.
But NoT now...
 I
All the doors and door knobs are on.
I love this picture....

The next time I post,
I will show pictures of the whole house.
I guess now, we can't call it the
Ugly Yellow House.

Until Then....

Updated Kitchen

Hello there,
We have been pretty busy trying to get the
house done before we go on vacation.
We leave at the end of July and time
just keeps creeping up on us.

The Kitchen, however, is Done.
Well, all the hard part anyway.
We only have to plug in the Oven and the
Microwave that will sit up above the oven.
But....
take a look at the cabinets that are now in.

Oohhhhhh.. Ahhhhhhh...

Sink and dishwasher are hooked up and even the
window has been painted with new trim.

Here is the other side of the kitchen. The oven
will go in between the two cabinets and the
microwave will sit up above the oven.

I am so glad to see that the kitchen,
living room, hallway and all three
bedrooms are done.

The bathroom is the only thing left to do.
But, we do have the flooring in and
after a long time waiting we can now
use the restroom...  LOL

YES
The most important part of the house
has come home.

We put in a new stool and sink.

I love this sink.
It has made the bathroom look even bigger.
Before, there was a sink and cabinet
that took up a lot of room.

Next, we will hang a new cabinet up
over the stool and put the liner up
around the bathtub.
Oh and of course, make sure
all the plumbing is working right.

I also need to mention that for the most part of
the renovation on the house we have had
no Air Conditioner.
Yea, I know.... HOT
But David, a friend of ours, is now
back in town from vacation and
came right over to help us out.
He fixed the air conditioner.
God Bless Him.
I told him I was taking a picture of him
and putting him on the blog.
He laughed and wanted to give me his
good side but I told him, that it  probably
wouldn't be wise since other bloggers
would be watching...

So here is his oThEr Great side.
Thanks David for all your help..

Well that's it for now.  We are so close
to being done I can just taste it.

So until next time, I hope everyone
has a great week.
