Dreaming on the Beach

So my family and I had to make a quick trip to Florida
this past week-end.  We have never been to
Florida nor have we ever been to the beach there.
So off we go on a 15 hour drive from
Oklahoma to Florida......
My kids are older so it did make it a little easier.
But like I said before, it was a quick trip.
We left out Thursday evening and drove
for 6 hours and then stayed in a hotel.
In the morning we drove the rest of the way and
did what we needed to do. We did take the
time to go to the beach for about an hour. I know
it wasn't long, but sadly we had to get back home.
But while we were there, I was taken
in by the beach, the sun and the ocean..
The simple waves that came across on the shore
and the peace that I felt.
Even through the hussle and bussle of
Panama City Beach, I still felt that peace
while I sat and watched the waves and
the beautiful colors of the sea. Thinking
to myself, how this large body of water
was created by a wonderful God.

I now have an understanding for those who
live on the beach in their cottages.
I wish I was one of those people.
I love Oklahoma and how we are a
slower pace kinda state.
I love how friendly everyone is here and the
only thing we have to tackle is tornadoes.
Now, I know that scares some of you but
really it's not that bad. And yes
we still say, "Come on back ya'll".

But come on... How could you not want to live
on the beach and hear the waves and feel
the peace that comes with it.

It will always be a dream of mine to live
on the beach in the cutest little cottage.
For now though, I will finish raising my kids
and run to the tornado shelter when needed.

I will be taking some more pictures tonight
from the Ugly Yellow House.
We now have half of the kitchen cabinets up
and the tile guy came and layed the tile
this past week-end while we were in Florida.
So, I will be posting them soon.

Until then,

Wood Floors and more…..

wood floor

Yea!!  The Wood Floor is done….
I love them and they make the house look GREAT!
We have also been busy
getting the kitchen cabinets ready.
We’ve been staining and putting on a polyurethane.
I have to say, from experience, you
will want to use gloves to put stain
on the anything…… I had it so deep
into my finger nails that I look
like I never seen water much less ever take a bath.
raw cabinet
This is what the cabinets look like when
we brought them home from Lowes.
This is what they look like with the stain
New cabinet
We used Cabot Early American stain and
Cabot Gloss Polyurethane from Lowes.
cans
They look great and are ready to be hung up.
As soon as they are hung, I will post the pictures.
We have also got the ball rolling on the new
carpet that is going in all the bedrooms.
They (the carpet people) came out
today and did the measuring of the rooms.
Also, the Tile Guy will be out Saturday
to lay the tile in the entry way
and the bathroom.
I know, we are sooooo moving along.
It is finally coming together.
Well, I will be back with more later,
Until then…

Cutest Little Shops

Hi there,

The girls one night sleep over was a lot of fun.
As I said before, I took my camera to practice
on taking macro pictures.  Well there were no flowers
on the grounds so I ended up using a weed.
(heh, whatever works, right??)
Here are the pictures I took.

I still have a lot of practice to do but I
can see a difference between now and
other pictures I have done in the past.

On Saturday, us girls went to several flea markets.

Victorian Accents was a place with a lot of
new and vintage victorian treasures.
They had a vintage camper out front
and also an old bicycle that was
cover with ivy.  It was really cool.

The next place is called
The Wax Bucket Gift Shop

Hand Poured Candles, Purses,
Bling, Bling and Other Girly Gifts.
This is their slogan and it says it all.
The owner of the store took a
picture of us girls.
As you can see, there are wood signs
hanging on the back wall.
They had a lot of neat saying.

Okay, the best is for last.
I just fell in love with this store.
The pictures will tell it all.

They had the cutest display's
set up all over the store.
If you ever get a chance to make it
over to Grove, Oklahoma, you will
have plenty of little shops to stop at.
We stopped at over 10 little shops
and there were at least another
15 shops to see but we had to
 head back home.

I had a blast just hanging out with
the girls and will be going back, but this
time, it will be a longer stay.
Well, thats all for now,
Until next time

Look....New molding and flooring

Hello All,
I thought I would give you
an update on the house.
I am so excited because,
We have added molding!!!

I have to tell you, its a big deal...
Remember when I told you that I
grew up in this house?  Well, I also, as an
adult, lived there a couple of times and
always thought that some molding would
really bring the house up to date and
make it look nice, well....

We installed it and it looks amazing!!!

With the new light fixtures, paint, trim and molding, we
finally feel like we are getting somewhere.
But Wait!!!

  Next comes the flooring....
Are you ready????

I know, we just got started, but
we actually have the kitchen and dining room
almost done.  I will take more pictures of it
when we finish the living room too.

Just a reminder, we are not experts in rebuilding
homes.  We have made our mistakes (like the panel)
and can pretty much figure that we are going
to make more.  That being said,
If you should have any questions
about any of the projects or what kind of tools
we used, feel free to comment me.

Well, I am off for a night stay at the lake
with just the girls.  I am hoping to bring
back some pictures of nature, as I am trying
to learn how to work my new camera.
I am wanting to take macro pictures
and plan to practice while I am there.

Hope you have a great week-end....

Party Favor Wine Glass

We love to play Bunco and it was
our turn to host Bunco night.
So we made these simple glasses to
give to everyone who came.
We took dice and glued them
at the bottom of the glass
and then wrapped a cool charm
around the stem of the glass.

They turned out really neat and
everyone loved their party favor.

Until Next Time,

Trim, New light fixtures and painting doors

Hello all,
Hope everyone is having a great week.
I am a little tired, we have been spending
a lot of days and nights at the Rent house.
The windows now have trim and the
new light fixtures are getting hung up.

This is the kitchen window.  I can not wait
until we get to hang the cabinets and
put the counters in.
Us girls, have been painting the doors down
the hallway.  The bedroom doors will be new
but we are trying to save some money on the
hallway doors.  They are a different size and
to have them made was going to be costly.
So painting was the way to go.

I have to show you something kinda cool.
As we were working on the house
I was able to take a picture of this....

This Hawk was sitting on the top of the swing
in the backyard.  There is a nest of blue jay birds
(I don't know my birds so I
am guessing at what kind of bird this is)
and the mama bird is not to happy that
the Hawk has landed.

The bird was flying down at the hawk and he
then moved to the roof of the house next door.
So the bird followed him and will not
leave him alone.  It was kinda cool to
see the mama bird trying to protect
her nest.

Well, hope everyone has a great hump-day tomorrow,
Until Next Time...

Outside Work

I love that we have teenage boys....
Who loves to get dirty and use power tools.

They wanted to help, so they jumped in on
cleaning up the mess that was left behind
in the backyard.

Brad and Justin cleaning away..

Darin throwing wood in the wood pile.

and using a power tool.  He looks to cool!!!

Justin clearing away rocks.

When I went outside for the second time to take
some more pictures, who do I see
hanging in the tree?  Brad!!
He is up there trimming tree branches.
While mom is on the ground yelling
"don't you fall, we don't have time
to make a trip to the hospital...."
Can you tell he is our precious little
dare devil??

Well keep checking back with us, we
will have more to show on our
 Ugly Yellow House...

Until next time.
