Dog Collar Tutorial

My daughter has two large dogs that
needed dog collars. She had a hard
time bringing herself to pay alot of
money for not just one, but two.
So she asked me if I could make her some.
So this is how I made them...

Supplies needed:
Scissors
Ribbon of your choice
Webbing
Fray Check
Fashion Buckle
D-Ring
Medal Hole punch

1. Use the Webbing to measure around your dog's neck,
making sure you only leave about 1/2 in to an inch.
(Use your own judgement on how much
neck room your dog will need.)
Measure and then cut the length you need.

2. You will need to measure and cut your ribbon.
Your ribbon will measure the same as the
webbing, plus adding 2 extra inches.
(You will be folding one extra inch of ribbon on
the back side of your webbing for each end.)

3. Starting at one end, take the extra inch of ribbon
and pin it to the back of the webbing
while lining up the ribbon that will
be running down the front of your webbing.
Sew the ribbon in place and do the same when you
come to the other end of the webbing.

This is what that back of the webbing should look like
on each end, after you have sewn the ribbon.
Once you sew the ribbon in place, use the Fray Check
on the ends of the webbing.

4. Take one end of the collar and run the D-ring in first
and then add the buckle, making sure that when you
take the other end of the webbing that it will go through
the buckle and then the D-ring the correct way.
(Like buckling a belt on your pants)
Now that you have it the correct way, undo it.

Now, with the D-ring and buckle still in place,
fold down the webbing and sew into place.

This is how it should look.
D-ring is under the buckle
and the buckle is upside down.

This is what it looks like when you turn the
collar over with the ribbon facing you.

5. Now, with your metal punch hole,
you will need to punch holes on the other end
of the the dog collar.
Measure your dog's neck again and mark
with a pen where the holes need to be punched.
I set the hole punch onto the pen mark
and hit it once with a hammer and
it worked. Make sure you do this
outside or at least on a hard surface.
I punch 2 holes to start with and then will
punch more if needed as the dog gets bigger.

There you have it, ENJOY
